Out of Home Care

We strongly believe every child deserves a safe, stable
and supportive place to grow.

a place to belong

Child safety and wellbeing

Anglicare NQ provides non-family-based residential care for children and young people who cannot safely live with their parents or in a family-based placement.

Our residential care workers provide safe, stable and homelike environments, with individualised support that respects each young person's culture, identity and developmental needs.

Working with Child Safety and each young person's care team, we develop support plans that promote wellbeing, education, social connection and access to appropriate health and developmental services.

Our residential care services operate across Cairns, the Tablelands and Townsville.

Our residential care services

Our residential homes provide a safe, structured and therapeutic environment tailored to each young person's experiences, developmental stage and needs. Residential youth workers provide consistent day-to-day care and collaborate with each young person's care team to support their individual care goals.

Our approach to care

Each child's and young person's individual situation is being assessed
based on their emotional safety, personal needs, shared decision making
and community connection guided by trauma-informed principles.

Keeping siblings connected

Where safe and appropriate, we aim to keep brothers and sisters together in care.
Maintaining these important relationships can provide familiarity, connection and a sense of belonging
during times of change. Our experience reinforces the value of supporting sibling relationships
while considering each child's individual needs, safety and wellbeing.

Transitional Housing Program (THP)

A pathway to transition from care to independent living in partnership with Child Safety Services

We support young people as they prepare for adulthood by building the skills, confidence and independence needed for everyday life.

Placements are arranged through Child Safety and may include shared accommodation or outreach support, depending on the young person's circumstances and needs.

Depending on their needs, young people may receive assistance to:

  • Develop practical life skills for independent living
  • Build confidence, resilience and decision-making skills
  • Strengthen connections with family, culture and community
  • Stay engaged in education, training or employment
  • Access housing, healthcare, income support and other essential services

Our approach is informed by evidence-based practice and draws on principles of child development, attachment, trauma, and grief and loss. Focusing on promoting wellbeing, personal growth, cultural connection and successful transitions to adulthood.

This program is funded by the
Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, Queensland Government.
