Cairns HomeStay Support Service

HomeStay is an early intervention service that supports people who have housing but are at risk of losing it.

We work with individuals, couples and families in private, social and community housing, providing free, confidential outreach support for up to six months. Our team meets you at home or in the community to understand what’s putting your tenancy at risk—this could include financial pressure, health challenges, family or relationship issues, or other circumstances affecting your housing.

Together, we create a plan to help you stabilise your situation, build practical skills, and stay in your home, with referrals to additional services if needed. You can refer yourself or be referred by another service, and once we receive a referral, we will contact you to arrange an initial visit and assessment.

Our Youth Homelessness Services support young people who are homeless or at risk of losing stable housing. Support may include short-term accommodation where available, along with guidance to help you stabilise your situation.

We offer support through two services: St John’s House for young men and St Margaret’s House for young women.

Our team works with you to understand your situation and provide support across areas like housing, health, relationships, education, and employment. We focus on helping you build stability, confidence, and the skills needed to move toward a safer and more independent future.

Family Homelessness Services

Don’t have a safe place to stay? We provide supported accommodation for young people who are homeless or cannot safely stay where they are.

We support couples and families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home. This may include short-term accommodation, such as hotel placement where available, along with practical support to stabilise your situation and work toward longer-term housing. Our team works with you to understand your needs, keep families together where possible, and connect you with the right services for ongoing support.
