Our promise to young people...

the safety and wellbeing of children and young people always come first.
That is the Anglicare Way.

Safe children. Strong futures.

Child Safety the Anglicare NQ Way

The Anglicare Way is grounded in kindness, inclusion, integrity, courage and hope. These values guide how we care for children and young people and how we hold ourselves accountable to them, their families and our communities.

We are proactive, accountable and child-focused in our governance and leadership to ensure children and young people are safe and feel safe in all their interactions with us.
Child safety is not an add-on to our work, it is a shared responsibility across our Board, Executive, leaders, staff, volunteers, contractors and partners.

Proactive, values-led governance and leadership

Our approach to child safety reflects our values in action:

Kindness:
we treat children and families with care, empathy and respect

Inclusion:
we create culturally safe, accessible environments where every child’s identity and voice are valued

Integrity:
we act honestly, transparently and in the best interests of children

Courage:
we speak up, challenge unsafe practices and act when something is not right

Hope:
we believe in safe, positive futures for children and work to make them possible

We are proud

Anglicare North Queensland is a proud Child Safe Organisation. Since 1 October 2025, we have embedded child safety and wellbeing into every aspect of how we lead, govern, communicate and deliver services.

Embedded front and center

Child safety is embedded in our governance, risk management, policies, leadership decisions and service design. Our Board and Executive Leadership team hold clear accountability for oversight, compliance and continuous improvement.

Clear, respectful and child-centred communication

We place great importance on how we communicate with children and young people, families, staff, partners and the wider community. This commitment is reflected in everything we do.

Our communication is:

  • Clear and accessible, so children and adults understand their rights and responsibilities
  • Respectful and inclusive, acknowledging culture, diversity and lived experience
  • Open and transparent, especially when concerns are raised
  • Child-centred, ensuring children and young people are heard, believed and supported

We actively encourage feedback and provide safe, clear pathways for raising concerns without fear.

Accountability and shared responsibility

Anglicare North Queensland has zero tolerance for child abuse, neglect, exploitation or discrimination. We take all concerns seriously and respond promptly, fairly and in line
with legal and regulatory obligations.

Our child safety responsibilities apply to:
Employees (ongoing, fixed-term and casual), volunteers and students, contractors, consultants and agency staff and partner organisations and third-party service providers.

Everyone working with or on behalf of Anglicare North Queensland is expected to
uphold our child safety policies, Code of Conduct and reporting responsibilities.
